Description:

Mexico, Yucatan peninsula, Maya culture. Late Classic, ca. 600-900 CE. This visage resembles the likenesses on the life-size stucco heads that presumably fell from the facades of Mayan architecture that are among the highlights of Classic Maya sculptural art and often demonstrate true portraiture. This face retains considerable burnishing and the artisan modeled remarkably realistic facial features. Behold the life emitted from those elegant, almond-shaped eyes, pouty likely Olmec-inspired mouth, expressive brows, and noble nose! Just enough detail at the hairline offers a glimpse of the headdress once worn by the regal countenance. Custom, museum stand. 3-1/4"T x 3-1/2"W x 1-1/4"D Provenance: Ex-private Colorado collection All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
