Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, ca. 500-100 BCE. Black-slipped ceramic musical instrument with concentric circles and diamond designs incised into the surface after firing. An unusual and extremely rare end-blown shakuhachi-style flute with the exit hole curved round to the same side as the 4-notes so it can be played as an extra note. Finely-burnished surface and fine design work, and though it is almost 2500 years old it still plays beautifully. 8-1/4" L. Provenance: Ex-L. Kalina, ex-Wendt Collection, Santa Fe, NM. The starting price is the lowest price at which the piece can sell.
