North America, Hawaii, 18th century CE. Incredibly rare early wooden club from around the time the islands were "discovered" by Captain James Cook in 1778. Made from single length of Kauwila wood (Alphitonia ponderosa) with repeating sawtooth ridges along its lethal edges. Kauwila wood is among the hardest woods known with tensile strength approaching iron. It also extremely dense and will not float when placed in water. Clubs from this wood are very rare and quite coveted. Size: 27.5" L x 1.625" W (69.8 cm x 4.1 cm); 12.75" H (32.4 cm) on included custom stand.
