Description:

Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Moche, ca. 200 to 500 CE. One of the finest, most important and gorgeous necklaces we have had the pleasure of handling! High karat gold beads strung with rock crystal, turquoise, and sodalite beads. Of most importance are the ten gold face beads, each set with turquoise eyes and the center pendant showing a Moche warrior holding mace in right hand, shield in left with turquoise adornments in eyes, on headdress and surrounding the entire scene. Gold tests over 20 karats. A necklace like this would have only been worn by one of the wealthiest and most powerful chieftains. Absolutely stunning! Necklace measures 19" L not counting the 2" drop for the lower pendant and accompanying beads.
