Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A beautiful circular bowl, mold-formed from semi-translucent, pale blue-green glass with a flat base, rounded walls displaying dozens of vertical ribs, a shallow basin, and a thick rim with a fire-polished lip. Thick layers of rainbow-hued iridescence have formed within the basin and provide a nice chromatic complementarity to the vessel's soft turquoise color. Size: 4.5" W x 2.125" H (11.4 cm x 5.4 cm).

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection, acquired at Timeline Auctions (March 14-15, 2013, lot 732); exhibited in 'Glass of the Caesars,' March-June, 2002, 181 Piccadilly, London, W1
