Description:

Ancient Near East, Persia (Iran), ca. 9th to 8th century BCE. A near miniature bronze horse and rider, finely cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process. The horse presents with an elongated stylized form, standing upon all four legs with an oblong head delineated with eyes yet no mane and furnished with a bridle. The equestrian presents in a scale that is significantly smaller than his steed and sits side-saddle pose holding the reins with both hands. Interestingly, he has a rather large/tall head, perhaps indicating that he is wearing a helmet or turban that has smoothed over the ages. A magnificent example! Size: 2.875" L x 1.875" H (7.3 cm x 4.8 cm); 2.7" H (6.9 cm) on included custom stand.
