Pre-Columbian, Guerrero, Mexico, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. A wonderful and quite rare depiction in stone of a seated figure wearing a jaguar skin. His hands are held above his stomach where there is a sunken cavity - possibly once holding a precious object, or used in hallucinogenic rituals. Custom base. Size: 4" H (10.2 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Sotheby's Parke Bernet, May 31, 1975, Lot 292. Exhibited Brooklyn Museum, New York, Museum number 4662 inscribed on base.
