Greek, Hellenistic, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. An elegant, mold formed Hellenistic glass bowl of an attractive hemispheric shape with a rounded base that is able to sit on its own. The vessel presents with lovely golden amber hues, two wheel-cut grooves running in parallel below the rim on the interior wall, additional incised bands surrounding the base, and areas of weathering film, with traces of purple and blue iridescence. A lovely piece of Hellenistic glassware exhibiting impressive artistry and technique. Size: 5.8" Diameter x 1.8" H (14.7 cm x 4.6 cm)

Exhibited in "Ancient Glass: Selections from the Richard Brockway Collection" at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, Salem from March 10 to May 19, 2007 and "Glass of the Ancient World" at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Florida from October 11 to December 28, 2008.

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired before 2003
