Russia, St. Petersburg Viking Age Site in town called Starya Lagoda, ca. 760-1100 CE. Attractive Viking jewelry, this necklace is comprised of stone, glass, and paste beads - some nearly translucent, others in hues of periwinkle blue, deep royal blue, brick red, and white, far too many to count.  A magnificent piece collected in situ from a Viking burial mound in Staraya Lagoda, Russia, a site that given its ancient barrows, architectural wonders, and beautiful views of the Volkhov River attracts the attention of contemporary Russian painters today. Please note that this necklace was found together with the other Viking beaded necklace from Starya Lagoda in this auction.  Size:  24" long. Provenance: Ex-Pickard Collection, Oklahoma City, OK, Mr. Pickard began his collection in 1959 following university studies;  Walter Seifried, I-Bead Antique and Ancient Art, Cincinnati - Santa Fe, collected in situ in 2006 from burial mounds discovered in the 1970s.
