Description:

Northern Europe, British Isles, the Atlantic Bronze Age to Iron Age transition period, ca. 1300 to 700 BCE. A lovely bronze axe head with a dramatic flared vertical blade, a thick blade neck with a recessed triangular design, two lateral hafting flanges, and a thin stop bar. The axe, made from a golden bronze, has a deep brown patina across the surface; one side displays a greater concentration of blue-green patina as well, though both sides have at least some. An axe is defined as a palstave if it is hafted using a bifurcated (rather than single prong) wooden handle. A great example of late Bronze to early Iron age craftsmanship! Size: 6.25" L (15.9 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
