Northern Europe, Medieval Period, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A well-preserved example of an iron (steel) axe, one of the most ubiquitous and useful tools made by blacksmiths in the medieval era. This example has an ovoid socket, a flat butt, and a narrow, curved blade leading to a still-sharp edge. Size: 6.8" L x 1.3" W x 1.5" H (17.3 cm x 3.3 cm x 3.8 cm)

Provenance: estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the USA with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
