Description:

Europe, probably Western Europe, ca. 10th to 14th century CE. A cast iron door knocker in the form of a lamb. Twin pins extend from one end, made to be placed into a wooden door. They join together at a round hinge that connects them to the lamb knocker by a thick iron pin. The lamb has a sweet face with small, upturned eyes and indentations on either sides of its head to give it ears. The front legs end in a flattened spheroid striking surface, and the lamb's body is elongated, to make it easier to grip. In the medieval world, the Christian symbolism of the lamb would have been immediately obvious. Comes with custom stand. Size: 11.25" L (if extended) x 2.5" W (28.6 cm x 6.4 cm); height on stand: 9" (22.9 cm)
