Western Europe, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A beautiful 17K gold ring with a sterling silver visage of Medusa in relief facing forward. The ovoid head is mounted in a prong setting, the thin band widens to shoulders that resemble flared papyrus. This dainty ring is wearable; the gorgon is perhaps modeled after ancient Greek drachm coins that famously depict gorgoneion faces. Size of face: 0.45" L x 0.4" W (1.1 cm x 1 cm); band opening: 0.7" Diameter (1.8 cm); US ring size 8; metal quality: 73.9% (equivalent to 17K+) gold, 12% to 97.14% silver, 1% to 13% copper; weight: 3.3 grams Size: 0.7" W (1.8 cm)
