Western Europe, probably England or France, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A lovely gold ring with a broad shank. Inlaid within the ovoid bezel is a hand-carved carnelian intaglio depicting the profile of a left-facing man, perhaps a monk based on his tonsure-style coiffure. Size (ring): 1.23" L x 1.03" W x 0.92" H (3.1 cm x 2.6 cm x 2.3 cm); (intaglio): 1.13" L x 0.80" W (2.9 cm x 2 cm); gold quality: 47.08% (equivalent to 11K+); weight: 9.5 grams; US ring size 8.5
