Description:

Etruria, central Italy, ca. 4th century BCE. This is a buff terracotta figure depicted in the pose of a person attending a drinking party -- a Symposium. The figure reclines to one side, with one arm raised on a bent leg, holding a wine goblet to their chest. Symposia were designed to have an intellectual aspect, perhaps with speakers or informal debates, hence the listening pose of the figure. This figure may have decorated a home where the owner had fond memories of Symposia. This is a rare form of ancient statuary! Size: 4.5" W x 3.75" H (11.4 cm x 9.5 cm)
