Description:

Classical World, Etruria, ca. 480 to 460 BCE. A solid, cast bronze example of a kouros, a form that originated in Archaic Greece. This figure depicts a young man with his left foot forward, striding atop a u-shaped attachment that sits in the wooden stand. The figure is an homage to male youth, the highest ideal of beauty in the Classical world, and appears to be nude aside from the tight cap on his head which frames his beautiful visage comprised of wide open eyes, an aquiline nose, and gently smiling mouth. This statuette was probably dedicated in a sanctuary, made to be a votive offering to the gods. A wonderful example with beautiful patina. Size: 3.75" H (9.5 cm); 4.75" H (12.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Vincent Carrozza collection, Texas, USA, collected in the 1980s
