Description:

Italy, Etruria, Italic / Samnite, ca. 5th to early 4th century BCE. A fascinating section of a cast bronze belt with two clasps in the shape of palmettes with hook closures. According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, these type of belts and hooks are well known from finds, especially in the regions of Apulia, Lucania, and Daunia, and from representations in Campanian and Lucanian painting. The belts are connected with warriors and are most often found in graves with other military equipment from the indigenous peoples of Southern Italy. Size: 4.65" W x 3.15" H (11.8 cm x 8 cm); 4.15" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.
