Etruscan, Genucilia Group, ca. 4th century BCE. An Etruscan low foot ceramic dish of an scarce to find design, painted in red and black, the central spiral wave design delineated with five spiraled points, the inner tondo decorated with a four pointed astral motif, with three dots on the interstices. Adorned on the exterior with red and black bands around rim, foot, and underside of shoulder. This is a rare style of a plate on a low ring foot. The name 'Genucilia' derives from a Latin or Faliscan lady of the name Poplia Genucilia, who owned a similar plate inscribed with her name. To compare with similar examples from the Genucilia workshop cf. no. 316-319 in the publication: Ines Stucker. Italy of the Etruscans. Exhibitions catalogue, Jerusalem 1991. Provenance: Ex-Art for Eternity, Howard Nowes, acquired from an Aachen, Germany Collection, acquired in the 1950 to 1960s.
