Description:

Etruria, central Italy, Genucilia Group, ca. 600 to 400 BCE. A pottery plate decorated with a floral motif that resembles the head of a dandelion sketched in black pigment on the concave interior. The wide, flat rim is enhanced with five spiral waves. This is a rare variant of the plate on a low ring foot, which has a deep lip, possibly for catching liquid. The name of the pottery group derives from a Faliscan or Latin lady named Poplia Genucilia, who was the owner of a similar plate which was inscribed with her name. A beautiful and well-preserved example of the type! Size: 5.7" W x 2.2" H (14.5 cm x 5.6 cm)

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
