Description:

Classical World, Northern Italy, Etruscan culture, ca. 7th to 6th century BCE. A lovely Bucchero wheel-thrown pottery chalice of an elegant form comprised of a broad cup with a slender stem that gently widens to a flared foot. The chalice is extensively decorated with a figural scene on the exterior walls featuring seated figures who are larger in scale indicating high rank and status, with a procession of soldiers and followers paying homage. A 'beaded' band below underscores the groundline of this scene, and the stem is finely incised with horizontal bands just below its midline. A very special example of Bucchero ware. Size: 5.75" W x 6" H (14.6 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection acquired before 2000, old collection number penned on base.
