Description:

Classical World, Etruria, ca. early 6th century BCE. A fine wheel-thrown blackware kyathos with a circular base, a wide, apple-shaped body, a flared rim, and a high-arching strap handle joining rim to body. The exterior of the body is decorated with dozens of vertical, pattern-molded ribs which imbue the vessel with a textured feel. Bucchero is a unique Etruscan type of pottery created via a specific technique of firing which results in a smooth, lustrous black finish. Size: 3.25" W x 3.875" H (8.3 cm x 9.8 cm).

  • Condition: Repair to top arch of handle with faint nicks to break lines. Areas of restoration to rim with some resurfacing and light overpainting. Fading to black coloration in some areas, minor nicks to rim, handle, and base, and some fading to ribs. Nice earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
