Description:

Etruria (present day Italy), Etruscan civilization, ca. 5th century BCE. A fine, solid cast bronze nude male youth, most likely depicting an athlete with a muscular torso, his body captured in motion, striding forward with his left foot and both of his arms extended. The Etruscans' appreciation for anatomy was inspired by the Greeks' penchant for representing the human form, i.e. standing Kouros figures and more dynamic idealized athletes. We see that embrace of athleticism and human physique in this freestanding votive statue. What's more the sculptor of this piece brilliantly delineated details - the figure's wavy coiffure, fine facial features, and most importantly, that expressive visage conveying the athlete's determination and vigor. Similar examples may be seen in major museums thoughout the world. Custom stand. Size: figure itself measures 4.25" H (10.8 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on stand
