Description:

Ancient Mediterranean, central Italy, Etruria, ca. 7th to 5th century BCE. An impressively rare bronze statuette of a female votive figure featuring a flattened body and outstretched hands as though making an offering. Resting upon sloped shoulders, her sizable head features large, ovoid eyes, a straight nose, full cheeks, and a closed mouth all crowned by long, braided locks that extend all the way down her back to her feet. This fascinating figure may represent Turan, the Etruscan goddess of love, fertility and vitality and patroness of the city of Velch. She also, however, bears a striking resemblance to representations of Athena Hippeia - Athena of Horses who was first to use a chariot - from Magna Graecia. Size: 1.1" W x 2.8" H (2.8 cm x 7.1 cm); 3.6" H (9.1 cm) on included custom stand.
