Description:

Classical World, Southern Italy, Etruria, ca. 6th century BCE. A fine wheel-thrown pottery kyathos with a petite circular base, thick walls with a lightly-carinated base, a flared lip, and an arching strap handle. The vessel is covered in matte jet-black glaze characteristic of Bucchero ware, now slightly faded with age. Bucchero is a specifically Etruscan style for firing pottery which results in a smooth, oftentimes shiny black finish. This kyathos may have been specifically made to be buried with offerings, as was the intention of much fine Etruscan pottery. Size: 3" W x 3.375" H (7.6 cm x 8.6 cm).
