Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Sepik River region, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden carving depicting a man and a woman engaged in coitus as they both lay on their backs, and with areas of red pigment and petite tufts of human hair accenting the entire composition. The positioning of the figures suggests this was meant to hang horizontally above a doorway, perhaps to a bedroom. Size: 42" L x 6.875" W x 2.75" H (106.7 cm x 17.5 cm x 7 cm)
