Description:

Judy Rogers (American, 20th century to present). "Security Reasons" oil on canvas, n.d. Signed on lower right and verso with title. An endearing painting by American artist Judy Rogers titled "Security Reasons" depicting a young, Native American girl nervously holding a Southwestern patterned blanket to her face. Draped in a long dress, she peaks over the cloth to gaze inquisitively at the viewer as she stands alone in an indistinct background vaguely resembling the red rock formations and blue sky of the New Mexican desert. Vibrant hues of persimmon, turquoise, magenta, and cyan bring warmth and energy to the uncertain expression and timid posture of the child, creating an overall aesthetically pleasing composition. Size of painting: 23.5" W x 29.5" H (59.7 cm x 74.9 cm); with frame: 31.25" W x 37.25" H (79.4 cm x 94.6 cm)

About the artist: "Judy’s interest in drawing began early. Her dad was a drafting and woodworking teacher in Andrews High School and so teaching Judy how to draw houses in perspective was a natural way to introduce her to art. Judy has a BFA in Art Education at Texas Tech and later she completed a Masters in Studio Art at West Texas A&M. She credits her love of color to studying under Amarillo, artist, Jack Sorenson. When she exchanged oils for acrylics, she began studying each year with Santa Fe and Carmel acrylic painter, William Hook.

Judy’s subjects range from New Mexico landscapes to florals to California missions. Each year, Judy designs a Santa that have become part of many families’ collections. Judy is married to Steve Rogers and they have two married sons and nine grandchildren who have begun to share her passion for art! She feels very blessed to have art as a way of expressing how God’s blessings surround us each day." (from the artist's website)
