**Originally Listed At $900**

Magna Graecia, western colonies, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. An elegant female figure, possibly representing the goddess Kybele (Cybele), mother of the gods, sitting with impressive posture, both hands placed upon her knees. She is dressed in a fine polos and chiton, the draperies of which cascade over her seated body, and diadem upon her coiffure with curls framing her sensively modeled face and long locks falling past her shoulders. Nice remains of red and white pigment still grace the piece. Size: 3.625" W x 8.625" H (9.2 cm x 21.9 cm)

Terracotta figures like this one have been found in private dwellings where they may have been part of a shrine or had a religious purpose. Others decorated tombs and sanctuaries.
