East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to Republic period, Miao people, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An elaborate ceremonial headdress worn by Miao girls and women during weddings and festivals, comprised of a stiff and pleated cloth cap covered with extensive brass and silver adornments! The lower brim is covered with repousse brass panels of horse riders and conical danglers that tinkle softly with the slightest of movement. Atop the crown are wires holding silver flowers, phoenix birds, and glass beads threaded on the wires. Size: 10" Diameter x 9" H (25.4 cm x 22.9 cm); 11" H (27.9 cm) on included custom stand.
