Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic period, 26th to 30th Dynasty, ca. 664 to 343 BCE. A fine steatite plaque bead of rectangular form carved with the image of a baboon, perhaps intended as the goddess Thoth, on one side and a series of hieroglyphs on the other. Incised with a deep band around the periphery, the bead is slightly convex on the side with the baboon, who is shown seated in profile facing right with a hatched background. Alternatively, the flattened side shows hieroglyphs in the form of a sun disc-crowned falcon with a flagellum, a feather, a basket and geometric designs. Size: 0.3" L x 0.7" W x 1" H (0.8 cm x 1.8 cm x 2.5 cm)

  • Condition: Encrustations to interior of suspension hole inhibit bead from being worn. Some small nicks and abrasions in areas, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact and very nice with good remaining detail. Light patina to surface.

Our shippers of choice are DHL for International shipments and UPS for domestic shipments, but we are able to ship via other carriers at the buyer's expense as deemed necessary or by request.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
