Egypt, Ptolemaic period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A fascinating pottery shard inscribed with 4 lines of ancient Greek script in black ink on beige slip. Ostraca are pieces of pottery, usually from vessels that are broken, that have been repurposed as simple writing tablets, the inscriptions scratched or inked. Size: 3.4" W x 2.7" H (8.6 cm x 6.9 cm)
