Description:

Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, ca. 332 to 30 BCE. A gorgeous ovoid bracelet with thick, open terminals and a slender body, all formed from electrum (63% gold). The bracelet body gradually thickens towards the terminals which resemble stylized serpentine heads with impressed spots and incised grooves indicative of scales. The impressions across the terminals were perhaps inlaid with precious stones at one time to give the serpents a more intimidating presentation. Wonderful luster covers the entire piece and imbues it with a fine presentation evocative of Egyptian opulence. Size: 2.6" L x 2.25" W (6.6 cm x 5.7 cm); (interior): 2.4" W (6.1 cm); quality of electrum: 63% gold, 22% silver, 14% copper; total weight: 7.7 grams.

Provenance: ex-Barakat Gallery, Beverly Hills, California, USA, acquired before 2000; ex-private K. Elliott collection
