Description:

Egypt, late pre-Dynastic period, ca. 3300 to 3100 BCE. A smooth, rounded mace head, drilled through the center, made from alabaster that glows golden when held up to the light. The mace head has a pleasing weight in the hand. It was made for ritual purposes. For example, the ritual center at Gilat included these mace heads buried with idols, ceramics, zoomorphic statuettes, and basalt vessels. They also seem to have been high value trade goods from Egypt to places in the Near East, based on finds in southern Jordan. Size: 3" W x 2.65" H (7.6 cm x 6.7 cm)
