Lot 9B
Egypt, Ptolomeic to early Romano-Egyptian, ca. 332 to 30 BCE. A petite janus-headed pottery vessel with two identical, mold-made visages gracing each side, each face impressive for its veristic humanistic features - those almond-shaped eyes, naturalistic noses, full lips, cleft chins, and textured coiffures. Atop is a narrow cylindrical neck with an out-turned rim and a single handle bridging the rim to the body. A lovely piece displaying the Ptolomeic dynasty's embrace of the classical taste for realism. Size: 2.25" W x 2.625" H (5.7 cm x 6.7 cm)
