Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab of ovoid form. The topside features typical insectile characteristics like folded elytra and frilled clypeus, and the underside shows a small gathering of hieroglyphs, perhaps as a good luck spell for the owner of the scarab. Ancient Egyptians employed scarab amulets in their daily lives due to their potent symbolism as representations of rebirth and protection. Size: 0.57" L x 0.42" W (1.4 cm x 1.1 cm)
