Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab of sizable form with notched elytra, sinuous legs, and a tapered head, all bearing faded remains of red pigment. Beneath the insect is an incised deity in a kneeling pose who holds a petite offering, perhaps a feather or a vessel - with a winged scarab and a sun above. Size: 0.9" L x 0.6" W (2.3 cm x 1.5 cm)
