Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-built faience ushabti fragment of dignified form covered in layers of soft yellow-green glaze. The figure stands in mummiform, holds a hoe in each hand, and grasps the pull cord of a seed bag - which is draped over the left shoulder - in his right hand. The face presents almond-shaped eyes with elongated outer canthi, thick brows, full lips, a plaited false beard, and cupped ears, all framed within the lappets of the tripartite wig. Three full lines and 1 partial line of hieroglyphs are visible along the lower body and, while untranslated, likely provide the name of the deceased along with blessings for their journey through the afterlife. Size: 1.75" W x 4.3" H (4.4 cm x 10.9 cm); 6.4" H (16.3 cm) on included custom stand.
