Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 664 to 332 BCE. A faience cup with a beautiful blue-green-yellow glaze. The cup is conical, with an incised hieroglyph showing what may be the sign for the goddess Nut, though it is difficult to read. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.8" W x 1.95" H (4.6 cm x 5 cm); height on stand: 2.3" (5.8 cm).

"Egyptian faience" was known as "tjehnet" to the ancient Egyptians, meaning brilliant or dazzling. It was made by grinding quartz or sand crystals together with various elements, including copper oxide, which gave it its distinct blue/green tint.
