Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti standing atop an integral rectangular plinth. The mummiform figure has fused legs in front of a dorsal pillar and holds a pick and hoe in crossed arms. The ovoid face presents with petite eyes, a perky nose, and a false beard, all beneath the lappets of a simple tripartite wig. Size: 1.3" W x 4.6" H (3.3 cm x 11.7 cm).

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

  • Condition: Minor nicks to feet, legs, body, and head, with chipping and fading to areas of original glaze, and light surface bubbling, otherwise intact and very good. Nice traces of glaze pigment throughout.
