Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, 1479 to 1401 BCE. This is a pale turquoise faience pendant in the form of a lion strung as the center of a necklace with ancient banded agate barrel beads interspersed with ancient round stone beads. The lion head symbolizes Sekhmet, an important goddess in the Egyptian pantheon, who is associated with war, healing, and the sun. Size: 18" L (45.7 cm).
