Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1549 to 1077 BCE; Third Intermediate Period, 1069 to 653 BCE; Ptolemaic to Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 332 BCE to 2nd century CE. A fabulous trio of mold-made faience fragments - the legs of an ushabti from the New Kingdom, a striding feline from the Third Intermediate Period, and a standing ungulate from the Ptolemaic to the Romano-Egyptian Period - all enveloped in a lovely turquoise-hued glaze. The largest fragment displays the lower legs of a sizeable ushabti figure flanked by a pair of cats, who are topped by a band of incised, vertical striations. Black pigment decorates the base, the ears of each cat, and forms a latticework pattern on the verso. Also boasting black-painted details, the second fragment exhibits the incised image of a striding feline in profile facing left, showing a rectangular body, attenuated legs, and a projecting face. The last example depicts an ungulate, perhaps a cow, in the round standing atop a rectangular plinth. Size of largest: 2" L x 3" W x 3.9" H (5.1 cm x 7.6 cm x 9.9 cm)

The charming creature features a thick body supported by muscular legs and 4 cloven hooves with a wide neck at one end and a sinuous tail extending from the other.

The striding feline figure has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available for $50 to the buyer. Please contact us to request.
