Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom period, Dynasties 18th to 20th, ca. 1549 to 1077 BCE. An impressive faience amulet of a hawk representing Ra, the Egyptian sun god, shown perched on an integral plinth with wings tucked and surmounted by a plumed headdress. Remains of black pigment known as kem and likely produced from the fertile silt of the Nile can be seen on the bird's tail, while an suspension loop behind the crown would allow the amulet to be worn as a pendant.
