Description:

Egypt, Coptic culture, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. A lovely textile fragment composed of tightly-woven natural cotton fibers in hues of beige, espresso, cream, and crimson. The peripheries are lined with wide panels filled abstract geometric and foliate motifs, and several strips of brown fabric encloses them to form the borders. The interior features four ovoid panels filled with abstract red-and-white zoomorphic creatures. A fine example of intricate Coptic textile artistry! Size: 15.625" L x 6.625" W (39.7 cm x 16.8 cm).
