Description:

Egypt, Coptic period, ca. 4th to 7th century CE. A delightful pottery jar with a cylindrical body, a sloped shoulder, an attenuated neck, and a flared rim. Boasting hues of beige, red, and black, the exterior is painted with bushel motifs between horizontal bands, the upper of which is decorated with spots. A magnificent work created by the Coptic culture, a Christian population in Egypt that began making important cultural and intellectual contributions to the Byzantine Empire by the dawn of the 4th century. Size: 4.5" Diameter x 5" H (11.4 cm x 12.7 cm)
