Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A cast leaded-bronze figurine of Osiris, the god of the Underworld, standing in mummiform with fused legs. Osiris holds his characteristic heka scepter and flagellum ("nekhakh" in Egyptian) in hands placed atop the chest and wears a finely striated wesekh pectoral collar around his neck. Wide-set eyes, a bulbous nose, and a plaited false beard comprise his dignified visage. Atop his head is an Atef crown composed of the White Crown of Upper Egypt (the "Hedjet"), a pair of ostrich feathers, a frontal uraeus cobra, a pair of spiraling ram horns surmounted by an additional pair of uraeus cobras, and an additional pair of uraeus cobras beneath each horn. Size: 1.125" W x 3.375" H (2.9 cm x 8.6 cm); 4.125" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Losses to feet and one cobra head along proper left side of crown as shown. Minor abrasions and encrustations, with remains of old mounting adhesive visible along back, chipping to some protruding areas, and softening to some finer details. Great patina throughout. Figurine drilled through bottom for mounting and display purposes. Old inventory label on front of as well as beneath display stand.
