Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic period, 22nd to 31st Dynasty, ca. 943 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scaraboid of a round-topped form featuring several shallow incisions radiating along the upper surface. The bottom of the scaraboid features an abstract incised scene, perhaps depicting a horse and rider or the faded face of a protective deity like the dwarf god Bes. Fed through the pendant's lengthwise suspension hole is a simple bronze wire ring with nice layers of green patina. Size (scaraboid): 0.6" L x 0.5" W (1.5 cm x 1.3 cm); (ring): 0.875" W x 0.95" H (2.2 cm x 2.4 cm).
