Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, Amarna Period (18th Dynasty), ca. 1351 to 1292 BCE. A miniature amulet in the form of Bes, colored with deep blue and contrasting light seafoam blue faience. Pierced through for suspension. Bes watched over the household, particularly the women and children of the house, protecting them with the magical sign sa. An amulet like this one was made to be worn for protection. Size: 0.55" L (1.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Hagar collection, ex-private NC collection acquired in the 1980's
