Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty, ca. 1991 to 1802 BCE. A mold-formed, turquoise-glazed faience scarab bearing the stylized likeness of a sphinx striding towards a reared uraeus cobra on the base. The topside exhibits minimalist insectile features like a triangular clypeus and notched elytra, and a modern wire is fed through the lengthwise suspension hole for wear. Size (scarab): 0.71" L x 0.50" W x 0.30" H (1.8 cm x 1.3 cm x 0.8 cm)

  • Condition: Faience scarab is ancient; metal wire is modern. Softening to some finer details on topside, with fading to glaze pigment in most areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to sphinx imagery on base.
