Pre-Columbian, Ecuadorian, ca. 5th to 15th century CE. A charming pottery whistle in the form of a spondylus shell with protruding nodules depicting the spikes of the shell and a blow hole and mouthpiece where the actual openings of a shell would be placed. Enveloped in red and beige slip, the instrument is pierced with a suspension hole for wearing on a necklace or belt. Size: 3.3" L x 2.9" W x 2.2" H (8.4 cm x 7.4 cm x 5.6 cm)
