Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A beautiful necklace comprised of sixteen ancient pottery beads strung on a modern sterling silver wire hoop with bent terminals that act as the clasp. Modern black and silver plated spacer beads separate the spindle whorl beads along the wire. Each pottery bead is spherical in form with a perforated suspension hole through the body, and a register of abstract creatures; wild cats, monkeys, and birds, with the other finer details brought forth with white pigment. The spindle whorl beads are strung on modern eye pins and arranged in a graduated pattern. This fabulous necklace is wearable and striking with its pleasingly balanced arrangement.
