Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, La Tolita, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. Effigy graters (rolladores) were utilized in the Tumaco region of what is now Colombia, by the Tolita culture, oftentimes taking the attractive stylized form of a fish or squid. Used to grate various vegetables, they were traditionally made with raised horizontal sections that were inset with sharp stones. This example is particularly amusing because it features a petite feline head emerging from its mouth. Perhaps you can call this piece a "cat-fish"! Custom stand. Size: grater measures 11.625" W x 3.75" H (29.5 cm x 9.5 cm); 5.75" H (14.6 cm) on stand
